Backup and disaster recovery in Tampa
Every Tampa Bay organization plans around hurricane season, which runs from June through November. Fewer have tested whether their systems, data, and phones will work when the office loses power or can't be reached.
B2E builds backup and disaster recovery plans that cover storms, ransomware, hardware failure, and human error, and we test them before you need them.
Business data backup
A backup isn't valuable until you can restore from it. We design backup strategies around how much data you can afford to lose and how quickly each system must return, with copies stored off-site, protected from ransomware, and restored on a regular schedule to prove they work.
That includes servers, cloud services, and Microsoft 365 data, which Microsoft doesn't fully back up for you by default.
What a disaster recovery plan covers
- Recovery priorities
- Which systems come back first, and how much downtime each can tolerate.
- Ransomware recovery
- Clean, isolated copies and a practiced process for restoring from them.
- Remote operation
- Cloud email, files, and phones so staff can work from anywhere with power and internet.
- Communication
- How staff, clients, and vendors are reached when normal channels are down.
- Roles and runbooks
- Who does what, in what order, with the contacts and access they'll need.
- Testing
- Tabletop exercises and restore tests, repeated after major changes.
Hurricane IT preparedness
Before a storm, the plan should already say which equipment gets shut down, what gets protected from water, and which systems switch to cloud or remote access. During an outage, staff should reach email, files, and phones without the office. Afterward, the priority is a controlled restart: power, network, then systems in the agreed order, with checks for damage and data integrity.
Business continuity
Disaster recovery focuses on technology. Business continuity focuses on keeping the company operating: critical systems, dependencies, alternative workflows, and communication. We help with both, so the technology plan fits the business plan.
B2E is based in Tampa and works with organizations across the Tampa Bay area, including St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Brandon, and Wesley Chapel, on-site and remotely.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between backup and disaster recovery?
A backup is a copy of your data. Disaster recovery is the plan and technology for getting the whole operation running again: how fast, in what order, and by whom.
How often should we test backups?
Restore real files and at least one full system on a regular schedule, and after any major change. A backup that has never been restored is an assumption, not a plan.
Is cloud backup enough?
It's an important part, but restoring large amounts of data over the internet can be slow. Many plans combine local and cloud copies.
Does Microsoft back up our Microsoft 365 data?
Microsoft keeps the service running, but its retention and recovery options are limited. Many organizations add a separate Microsoft 365 backup.
